A Bill of Rights for College Students
Read this several times. Place a copy on your wall. Tape a copy in your notebook. Share it on your social network. Email it to your friends. Understanding and claiming your rights can Transform You and Your Education.
All Students have these Five Rights:
1. To be Respected by professors, administration and staff, and by other students… WITHOUT REGARD TO Race, Ethic Background, Religion, Personal Beliefs, Sexual Identity, Family Status/Income, or Learning Differences.
2. To use your Personal Talents and Preferred Learning Styles.
3. To DEFINE a GOOD EDUCATION in terms of your Personal Goals and Interests.
4. To Schedule Time to meet your Personal Goals.
5. To DECIDE what Grades are Important to meet your Personal Goals.
With these rights come RESPONSIBILITIES.
You must respect the rights of others including your family and those you interact with at school.
You must set your own goals. When you use your personal talents and learning styles, when you define a good education, When you schedule your own time,
You must make serious decisions. When you decide what grades are important, you must recognize that you may be accepting poor grades or failing grades in order to get the education you have defined.
You must commit yourself to do the work needed to reach your goals.
Life is a ten-speed bike. Most of us have gears we never use.
— Charles Schultz
Breakthrough Learning is like discovering those mental gears you have but never learned how to use.
